First things to know

Here are my Top Ten basic facts for Argentina

1. Argentina comes from the word argentum which means 'Land of Silver'. It is the only country in the world named after metal!
2. Argentina is the eighth largest country on Earth, 2nd in the Latin Americas!
3.The highest point in Argentina is actually the highest point in South America; it is the tallest mountain in the Andes it is called Acongagua. 
4. The lowest point in Argentina is Laguna del Carbon. It is the lowest point in the southern and western hemisphere. 
5. Argentina is famous for the 2008 Fifa World Cup where they were playing a match against the England their captain Diego Maradona (now 54 and retired from football) hand balled the ball in the quarter-finals as they were about to score. He says it was 'the Hand of God'.
6. Another reason why Argentina isn't very popular is because in 1816 and 1817 a huge war broke out regarding how they want to be independent and not be a part of the UK.
7. The main language is Spanish but they Portuguese and many others too!
8.There are over 30 National Parks in Argentina.
9.Argentina's favourite sport is hockey there are many others like: football, cricket.....
10. The most famous person in Argentina is, yep you guessed it, it's Messi!
